Job description:

The Research Associate provides advanced statistical analysis to produce reports that inform executive and departmental decision-making and outcome studies. This position reports to the Director of Institutional Research. Anticipated start date is July 5, 2017.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collect, analyze, and report information related to student course success, persistence, program completion, transfer, and employment outcomes, Conduct complex quantitative studies using descriptive and inferential statistical methods to measure student outcomes and their relationship to College programs and services.
• Serve as the most advanced statistics expert in the Institutional Research Department, and an advanced user of statistics software such as R and STATA.
• Design, build, and update relational databases, and write complex queries to generate customizable data reports, to efficiently meet the needs of WCC staff.
• Train and supervise part-time professional research staff in data analysis, statistics software, report development, and survey research, as assigned by Director.
• Access and retrieve data from the College’s institutional information system (Banner) for use in data analysis.
• Write concise and comprehensive reports for executive administrators based on careful data analysis and interpretation of research results.
• Develop and submit accurate detailed annual reports required by federal and state governments within mandated deadlines.
• Participate in the formulation of research questions and the interpretation of research results.
• Supervise and participate in data analysis and report development in a wide variety of ad hoc and recurring projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Masters’ degree in social science or related discipline with quantitative emphasis, and equivalent of two (2) years full time experience in quantitative social research. Four (4) years of experience preferred. Recent graduates with the equivalent of one year (1) of research experience will be considered at a lower classification.
• Significant experience and analytical skills necessary to comprehend, structure and investigate applied research questions involving complex data.
• Advanced current knowledge of statistics and inferential techniques such as linear and logistic regression, propensity score matching, event history analysis, and cluster analysis. Ability to learn other techniques to answer new research questions.
• Advanced current knowledge of Microsoft Access to create, modify and manage large and complex datasets; compose complex queries and design detailed reports that meet institutional needs.
• Significant recent experience as a researcher using R and STATA to conduct analysis of large and complex datasets while maintaining data integrity.
• Working knowledge of Oracle necessary to understand database table structure, locate data for research, and import it to desktop software.
• High level of technical skill working across multiple software applications and a variety of database formats to conduct research while maintaining data integrity.
• Experience in federal and/or state reporting (IPEDS, Perkins) preferred.
• Experience in all aspects of survey research including survey creation, distribution, collection, and survey data cleaning, manipulation, and analysis.
• Experience creating web and paper based survey design and analysis using survey software.
• Ability to learn and become adept at using Banner information system software.
• Ability to assess emerging software applications for research use.
• Self-directed with the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and collegially as an active member of a research team.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
